Cabrillo Education Foundation (CEF) is a non-profit organization that operates independently - but in partnership with - the Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD) in Half Moon Bay for the benefit of enriching educational excellence for all the students attending our 7 local public schools. We strive to fund high leverage programs that have well defined outcomes and can make a big impact on student success.
CEF focuses on:
1) Next Gen Science, Science Collaboration, Math Collaboration
2) College/Career Readiness Skills
3) Social & Emotional Wellness and Innovation
CEF works collaboratively with CUSD to identify clear goals, strategies, and resources required for each initiative to achieve results.
Grants in these areas have allowed us to launch Teacher Professional Development and Informational Libraries to increase our students' reading proficiency by the end of third grade. Eight years ago we were able to add a 5th Grand Science Specialist to our schools.
CEF leverages the power of its annual Endowment distribution to develop new programs, such as our Innovation Grants for both CUSD Faculty and students. These grants seek to identify and support teacher and student innovative programs that can be game changers when taken to scale.
In addition, CEF has developed two new collaborative initiatives to address the real needs of our students.
1) A Community Hub that provides a space for free sessions on wellness, tutoring and digital literacy support.
2) A Career Exploration Initiative that offers in-person career panels and a job fair to all the students at Half Moon Bay High School and Pilarcitos.
We continue to contribute to CEF even though our son is grown. The educational programs they support make our young people, and therefore our whole community, better prepared to take on the challenges ahead of us. - Diane Brosin
Real Life Learning continues to grow and deepen its connections with the Coastside community. HMBHS students are now linked to over 100 local nonprofits and programs as a way for them to give back, discover aptitudes, build skills and explore career pathways. - Karen Hoffman, RLL Coordinator HMBHS
We champion success for all Coastside public school students. For 20 years the Cabrillo Education Foundation (CEF) has been committed to building an Endowment to provide sustainable financial support for the 7 schools in the Cabrillo Unified School District. Today, the CEF Endowment funds initiatives in Literacy, Next Generation Science, Innovation, Social Emotional Learning and College & Career Readiness. Since 2012, CEF has allocated over $2,000,000 to enrich the K-12 experience.
