Nonprofit Eligibility Requirements

To participate in Coastside Gives, organizations must register by January 31, 2025. In addition to registering for the Giving Event, organizations are required to meet the following criteria: 

    • The organization provides services that directly impact the Coastside area from Pescadero to Montara, California, and that funds raised through Coastside Gives will be used for services and programs directly impacting this area.  
    • The organization is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), California Franchise Tax Board, and California Department of Justice, eligible to receive tax-deductible donations. 
    • The organization is compliant with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances and regulations including, but not limited to, the USA Patriot Act and all applicable anti-terrorist financing and asset control laws.

    • The organization has two years of financial reporting using either an IRS FORM 990 or 990EZ ONLY. Forms 990-Ns, 990-PFs, or any other financial report or document, are not acceptable. Some exceptions apply, such as if the organization is a fiscally-sponsored organization. If so, the organization's fiscal sponsor must adhere to the IRS FORM 990 financial reporting, along with the federal and state government compliance requirements stated above. You must also provide a copy of your fiscal sponsorship agreement.

    • The organization is the only organization applying to participate under this specific 501(c)(3) tax ID number. 

    • The organization is governed by a body such as a board of directors, board of trustees, or similar. 

    • The organization will not solicit donations in conjunction with Coastside Gives by providing any benefit or privilege to a donor in return for their donation made, including for goods, services, raffles, auctions, memberships, legally binding pledges, support of political campaigns, or other “quid pro quo” items that provide benefit to the donor.
    • The organization must agree to and comply with all of the Terms & Conditions of participation for Coastside Gives as outlined by the Mavericks Community Foundation

The following are NOT eligible to participate: 

    • Churches or government organizations. Some exceptions apply, including: 
      • We will accept organizations or foundations that are fiscally sponsored by a school or church if eligibility requirements are met by the fiscal sponsor. 
      • Organizations or foundations created to support churches, schools, or government organizations are eligible if eligibility requirements are met. 
    • Private foundations (filing a 990PF)
    • Supporting organizations (charity status of 509(a)(3))
    • Public safety organizations (charity status of 509(a)(4))
    • Organizations that do not have (or fail to maintain) a valid tax exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service
    • Organizations that are in or attain a status of "Delinquent, "Revoked," or any other outside of "Current" on the California Department of Justice Registry of Charities and Fundraisers at anytime during the course of Coastside Gives
    • Organizations that are not in good standing or been administratively dissolved/cancelled according to the California Franchise Tax Board at anytime during the course of Coastside Gives 

Mavericks Community Foundation reserves the right to approve or deny my organization’s participation based on its own discretion.
