Sonrisas, in partnership with Puente, is raising funds to purchase and operate a two-chair dental RV to advance oral health equity on the South Coast including the rural communities of Pescadero, Loma Mar, La Honda, and San Gregorio.
With a combined population of 3,882, fewer than 25% receive dental care on the South Coast. Distance to available care options (30-75 minutes), scarce paid time off and transportation issues means that 1,700 low-income individuals go without dental care.
A mobile dental clinic will vastly expand access to dental care in this rural community by addressing common challenges in the area such as access to potable water and power outages.
This innovative solution will ensure continued dental care for farmworkers and expand care to other low-income residents.
