Sandra Turner - BGCC Fundraising Campaign

Dear Friends and Colleagues: 

I am proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside. Our local organization, Boys & Girls Club of the Coastside offers programs that meet the needs of local families in our community. 

BGCC provides a safe place for academic support, social-emotional connection, and opportunities for physical activity (recreational and competitive). BGCC has expanded programs beyond middle school, including elementary-aged children. We are currently supporting over 1,100 youth aged 5 to 18 students -- and build/maintain facilities used by over 5,000 community members. 

BGCC programs and services include:

Academic support: Kids are encouraged to complete their homework and have access to tutors and mentors who help them complete their assignments. This gives them the feeling of accomplishment, pride, and confidence. 

Cunha Athletics & other sports programs: We fund and run all Cunha sports -- 20 teams for 350 youth in 8 sports (basketball, cross country, flag football, soccer, tennis, track & field, wrestling, and volleyball). We sponsor Coastside Basketball and the Half Moon Bay Soccer Clubs. We partner with Half Moon Bay Golf Links to offer golf instruction for girls and boys.

Social and emotional support: Kids at the BGCC are surrounded with friends, mentors and supportive staff who care about them individually. If someone is having a difficult day, it doesn’t go unnoticed. There are quiet places for kids to relax and talk with one of the caring staff or a counselor. Being a pre-teen and teen can be challenging. The BGCC is equipped to provide social and emotional support.

College Prep: BGCC supports teens to think about the future and develop plans to work toward college, volunteer in the community and build important life skills.

BGCC maintains numerous facilities in the community -  the Event Center is the best known!
